Boeing India to set up the Second Largest Campus at Devanahalli by this year-end

31 Mar 2023

Boeing’s India president Salil Gupte on 30-01-2023, confirmed that by the end of 2023 the new 200 million $ campus will be operational. The company has invested $200 million to build the campus of a  43-acre site in Devanahalli. Various labs, testing infrastructure and research and development facilities will be made available. The new campus is considered to be one of Boeing’s largest centres outside its headquarters in Virginia. The Boeing India campus will be located at the  Aerospace park in Devanahalli near the  Kempegowda International Airport. It may be recalled that the project was cleared by H.D. Kumaraswamy’s government in September 2018 within a short span after coming to power.

Reports show that this new facility will be heavily involved in research on eVTOLs (electric, vertical, takeoff and landing) vehicles and achieving Boeing's sustainability goal of hitting net zero emissions by the year 2050. Boeing stated that for India to be self-reliant in the aerospace sector, for both the commercial and defence market, it will need engineering capabilities like the ones being developed in Boeing’s offices here and is focused on marking Boeing’s importance as a prime commercial and defence market for the aircraft maker, which is expected to gain more traction and market share in the future years.

Elsherbini said that “ We are also increasing the amount of lab space we have, providing our people the opportunity to do more engineering work,” he said. He added that the centre here has become an integral part of the global engineering fabric of the company. All commercial platforms, most of the defence platforms and the space platforms are being worked on directly from India.

After the completion of the project, the new campus will have a huge opening for 3,000 jobs. The company has operations across the country with field service offices in Mumbai, Hindan, Rajali, and New Delhi and will henceforth have the main branch at Devanahalli. With a manpower of over 4,000 employees, Boeing India is a major player in the country's aerospace and defence sector.
