CET Compulsory for BSc Nursing Aspirants- 2023-24

19 Apr 2023

As per the recent proclamation made by the Indian Nursing Council, the states have to conduct mandatory CET for B.Sc. Nursing aspirants for the academic year 2023-24.

According to the latest announcement non-residents might also have to appear for the tests conducted by the state for BSc Nursing seats in state colleges.

This decision is made with the motive to improve the quality of Nursing education and break the chain of unauthorised Nursing Colleges in the country.

There are around 40,000 seats in 200 nursing colleges across Karnataka. Until now, the admissions were made through Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) based on students’ II PU marks. In private universities around 20% seats are for gov quota. KEA has been conducting counselling for these seats.

The portal for CET applications has been closed. But the KEA body is planning to reopen the applications for Nursing aspirants. While KEA is still contemplating about conducting tests for the non-resident aspirants.

There's a hike in the number of applicants(2.5 Lakhs) in 2023 when compared to previous year (2.1 Lakhs). Apart from BSc Nursing CET is a state level examination which is  also conducted for Engineering, Veterinary, Farm sciences and Agricultural programs.
